"In winter, when the days grow shorter and the nights grow longer, we learn to find the glow in the little things: in the flickering of a fire, in the crunch of snow underfoot, and in the warm light shining through a window. The Winter reminds us that even in the cold and darkness, life goes on and we can find new strength in the silence of nature."

– John Ruskin

Winter vacation in Tux - Hintertux

in the Tuxertal

Skiing & snowboarding

With the Eggalm ski area you can experience pure fun on the slopes, almost right to the door of your holiday apartment! The day on the mountain always starts uncomplicated, as it is only 600 meters to the Eggalmbahn lift. The Eggalm ski area offers 21 kilometers of slopes, of which 6 kilometers are in the blue category and 15 kilometers are of medium difficulty.

The Eggalm ski area is part of the Ski & Glacier World Zillertal 3000. A trip to the other ski areas in the immediate vicinity can be more than worthwhile for ambitious skiers and snowboarders! The ski bus stop is only 50 meters from your holiday apartment and allows you to easily get to the surrounding ski areas.

Natural snow slopes, deep snow slopes, mogul slopes, boarder parks and much more: the Ski & Glacier World Zillertal 3000 is a true Eldorado for winter fans! Almost 200 kilometers of slopes await you on the Hintertux Glacier, on the Rastkogel and in the Finkenberg ski area. The Hintertux Glacier is home to the Betterpark, a fun park with all the chicanes that is well-known among snowboarders. But snowboarders will also find first-class conditions in the Eggalm ski area, especially in the freeride area with untouched powder snow.

The trend sport is ski touring

With the boards under your feet, you head out into the untouched winter landscape, away from the slopes you discover the Tux mountains from their most beautiful side! Ski tours combine adventure with experiencing magnificent natural impressions. We have put together some of the best tips for you!

To the Grüblspitz

The Eggalm mountain station is the starting point for this ski tour, from here you take the “Beillift” drag lift to the Grüblspitze at an altitude of 2,300 meters. Now the descent follows over wonderful ski terrain, past the Waldhoaralm to the “Eggalm Nord” lift, which allows you to return to the Eggalm ski area. The ski tour is designed to last approximately 2.5 hours.

To the Rastkogel

With the 2,762 meter high Rastkogel, a popular touring mountain awaits you in the Tux Alps! There is a suitable route for everyone, regardless of the desired level of difficulty. The mountain railways (Eggalmbahn or Rastkogelbahn) offer access to the touring area.

Would you like more tours? How about trips to the Riffler, which is over 3,000 meters high, or to the Tettensjoch? Fantastic views of the Zillertal mountains and exciting experiences in the great outdoors are always guaranteed!

Cross-country skiing & tobogganing

There is also a lot going on in Tux away from the slopes

Winter in Tux offers 16 kilometers of cross-country ski trails, starting almost at your doorstep! The trails can be used as both classic cross-country ski trails and skate-style trails. The Luggi-Gredler trail is free to use and runs from Tux-Vorderlanersbach to Madseit. In Hintertux, there's also a 1.5 km trail (ideal for technique training or a short lap).

Tobogganing is always a winter fun that provides a fast-paced variety away from the ski resorts. The first toboggan run can be reached from Lanersbach on foot in less than 40 minutes or easily by toboggan taxi. The toboggan run at the Höllensteinhütte offers sledge rental and a route length of 4 kilometers, the height difference is an impressive 440 meters. Even more tobogganing fun awaits at the Bichlalm (3 km length of slopes).

Winter hiking

The frosty months of the year offer all sorts of opportunities to spend your vacation actively. From the Alpinhome in Tux-Lanersbach there are a variety of winter hiking trails that allow you to experience the magic of snow and ice at its best.

To the Grieralm

The winter hiking trail leads about 6 kilometers to the Grieralm snack station. Even if the path is already the destination, there are still some highlights of the hike waiting at the Grieralm. The snack station offers typical Tyrolean specialties to fortify yourself after the approximately one and a half hour hike. There is a 5 kilometer long toboggan run directly on the Grieralm, which is even illuminated from late afternoon onwards!

Up and down

Winter hiking in the Zillertal doesn't always have to involve climbing many meters in altitude. Just turn the tables! The Eggalmbahn, which is located right next to the Alpinhome, takes you up to lofty heights. The hiking trail then leads over the Lattenalm with a snack station and further over Gemais back to Lanersbach.

Winter hiking is even better if you are well prepared for it. Sturdy shoes, hiking or ski poles, hats and gloves are a must!
